The founder of the Museum of the City of Athens - Vouros-Eutaxias Foundation was Lambros Eutaxias who was assisted in the endeavor by a trust fund set by his uncle (from his mother side) Alexandros Vouros.

The Museum bears the names of Lambros Eutaxias (1905 - 1996) and Alexandros Vouros (1871 - 1959). It was founded in 1973 and opened its doors to the public in 1980.

In 1990 the Museum was awarded the Academy of Athens Award.

Today, it is visited every day by individual guests, groups and schools.
